A Walk Through the Garden

Join us for a walk through the garden, passing by over 300 rose varieties and 4000 bushes, including Grandiflora, Shrub, Floribunda and Hybrid Tea roses in a myriad of hues.

The rose garden is one of eight AARS (All-America Rose Selection www.rose.org.) accredited public rose gardens in New York State. This year, the Rose garden is one of only five gardens in the northern climate zone participating in a trial of “Earth Kind Roses” which are designed to grow with little or no watering, fertilizing, or pesticide application.

As you continue your walk, note the new entry staircase and gatehouse constructed over 2008 and 2009 look for the 6 foot tall abstract sculpture composed of Cor ten steel. This sculpture, created by Robert Blood, was installed in the 1980’s and is entitled “Variation on the Chinese Calligraph Yuan.” The spring pond, in the northwest corner of the garden, was rebuilt in the summer of 2008 and designed to incorporate a perennial flower bed which surrounds the water feature. The sound of flowing water beckons visitors to stop and enjoy this area.
